What a fabulous pier and terminal area! The new structures offer a delightful array of shopping choices. Impeccably clean and incredibly efficient. The swift transportation by bus to the city center is an added bonus.

The folks around these parts of Alaska are just so warm and friendly. Everything was so well-coordinated. The grub at the restaurant on the premises was absolutely top-notch. I must say, I wasn't quite sure what to anticipate here, but I'm genuinely thrilled we stopped by and can't wait for another visit down the line.

The bloke renting out them ebikes was proper helpful and knew his stuff. His bikes were top-notch, I saw all the sights he marked on the map he gave me, covering a whopping 40km.

This cruise terminal seems to be flouting ADA regulations. When we asked for a wheelchair-accessible shuttle, a service that is mandatory for public transportation facilities, the staff deceived us by claiming that the lift on the ADA shuttle was out of order. They rushed us onto a regular charter bus, where we had to manually lift our wheelchair user with the help of four adults. Later, we discovered from the bus driver and downtown staff that the ADA shuttle's lift was actually operational, and we were denied services solely to expedite the boarding process. This conduct violates ADA guidelines, and this port should face penalties for failing to comply.

What a disaster of a port terminal! After enjoying a fantastic wildlife sightseeing boat excursion, we arrived at the terminal only to be faced with chaos. Our plan was to visit the Sitka National Historical Park in town, but our timing was off as a massive 4500+ passenger ship had just arrived, causing mayhem.
The wait for the free shuttle to downtown, five miles away, was estimated to be over 90 minutes. Desperate to make our way into town, we attempted to book an Uber or Lyft, but the app constantly informed us that no vehicles were available.
On the bright side, the terminal did have a charming coffee shop called Off the Hook, where we were able to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee amidst the chaos.

I must say, the cruise terminal was an absolute gem! The island, ocean, and forest views were simply breathtaking. We decided to embark on the 4x4 tour, although I must admit we would have preferred a more leisurely pace to truly soak in the beauty around us. The sight of eagles and otters was a delightful surprise that added to the overall charm of the experience.

It's quite disappointing, really. The city talks about wanting more tourists but it seems they don't actually mean it. I visited back in 2018 and the tour just skimmed past the city. It looked lovely, so I decided to come back aboard a cruise in May, and let me tell you, it was an absolute nightmare at the terminal.
Our ship wasn't even fully packed, just at half capacity, but another ship pulled in almost completely full. I had breakfast first, but when we tried to head into town, about 5 miles away, we found ourselves in a queue with around 4000 other people.
Turns out, the town only has 12 buses and 4 taxis, no Ubers in sight. So, if you do the calculations, assuming each bus can hold 40 to 46 passengers, and taking into account the time needed to accommodate those with wheelchairs, scooters, elderly, or overweight individuals, plus the minimum 30-minute journey each way and an early departure, it hardly seems worth the hassle. Waiting for over 2 hours, as some did, is just not feasible. Many, including myself, ended up heading back to the ship.
It's clear that the town can't handle more than one ship at a time, and to top it off, they chose that day to do road repairs. It was all so disorganized, thoughtless, and inconsiderate towards the passengers. It's almost as if they don't actually want visitors!
Well, this was my last try at visiting. Feeling extremely frustrated and let down. 😞
