I've been living in this area for more than 20 years, and let me tell you, it's truly a top destination for tourists. My workplace is located near the church, right in the middle of the road, believe it or not. Yes, right in the middle of the road with traffic on both sides. A definite must-see in Sitka. For those seeking a more museum-like experience, the Bishop's House may be what you're expecting. However, this cathedral is not intended to feel like a museum because it simply isn't one. The donation box may seem out of place, and the display cases filled with what appears to be random old church artifacts are the only semblance of a "museum" experience you'll encounter here.

This is a church, not a museum. Chances are you won't visit during a service, but remember, this is a place of prayer. If you find yourself grappling with any life challenges, head over to the icon of Mary on the far left of the icon screen (the wall of icons dividing the main room and the sanctuary at the end). Pour out your troubles to her... and I can assure you: she will respond.
